Founded in 1996, the Dubai World Cup showcases the world-class horse-breeding, training and racing that is celebrated throughout the Arabian peninsula.

The establishment of this annual, invitation-only event places the United Arab Emirates on the global horse-racing map, attracting competitors from all over the world.

The World Cup is a Flat Race, run over two kilometres for four-year-old thoroughbreds and above, and attracts a purse of US$6 million for the winner. The meeting, which takes place over a single day, consists of seven races, with a total purse of $21.25 million.

More than 50,000 racegoers attend the event every year, and are able to combine the excitement of horse-racing with Dubai's unrivalled tourist facilities.

For the first time in 2010 the Dubai World Cup was held at the Meydan Racecourse. This brand new complex offers a marina, hotel IMAX cinema as well as a world class horse racing venue with a 1-km-long grandstand with a seating capacity of 60,000.
