Phil Jones

Phil Jones eXcellence Judge

Sir Tim Berners Lee and Sir Jonathan Ive were two of the top 20 digital influencers listed in the BIMA Hall of Fame in 2012 but tucked away in between them was Phil Jones. Less famous and no Sir to his name but most people in the design, digital and sports industries know and respect Phil.  In the pre-digital era Phil was ensconced in the world of typography and was chairman of The Typographic Circle for many years.

In the nineties Phil was Managing Director of one of the first digital agencies in the UK, Real Time and built the first websites for brands like Canon & Diesel as well as the first website for the Premier League as well as Sport England’s website. The sporting links also saw Phil building teams to create the identities for UK Sport, UK Athletics, Soccerex, England’s bid to host the 2006 world cup and the launch of England Fans for the FA.

Phil’s reputation over 30 years in design, digital and sports gave him the credibility to be able to gather those three communities together annually for www.sportspodge.co.uk, www.digitalpodge.co.uk and www.podgelunch.com which have become “must attend” dates in the diary for senior folk from those sectors. Music Podge is due to launch in 2014 at the Café Royal.

Phil is chairman of the www.dadiawards.com and featured in The Drum’s Digerati in 2013.
