Look Wonderful This Winter: Expert Make Up Tips

Now that Winter has arrived it's time to change your skincare and makeup.  As the weather gets colder and the central heating goes on, your skin becomes dehydrated and sensitive. If you haven't done so already, it's time to change from lightweight summer moisturisers to something a little more hydrating.

My go to favourite is Manuka Secrets Day Cream which is an all natural skincare from New Zealand, its main ingredient being Manuka honey which is good for all skin types and creates a perfect make-up base.

We've seen the looks of the season at the fashion shows and know the trends: minimal skin, metallic eyes, berry lips & lush lashes.  Having been a makeup artist for 30 years I've researched the seasons best products to make it easy for you to achieve these looks.

Minimal skin is in and It Cosmetics have it covered with their CC+ Your Skin But Better full coverage cream & hydrating serum. They also have a Bye Bye Redness neutralising correcting cream and a Bye Bye Pores finishing powder if you have to address either of those issues.  Bye Bye under eye is a full coverage waterproof concealer and while you’re there, check out their Heavenly Luxe brushes.  I just discovered them and they're amazing.

Forget filled-in eyebrows and instead feathery brushed up brows are in. Try using a clear mascara and brush eyebrows upward. The clear mascara will help keep brows in shape. Alternatively Dior have a new bold brow mascara that comes in 3 shades to brush through the brows if yours are looking sparse.

Metallic make-up is making a bold statement this winter.  Dior have some wonderful intense metallic shades - check out their limited edition 5 colour eyeshadow palette in Hypnotize as well as their Metalizer squeezable tubes which can be used as a creamy eyeshadow or a lip gloss. If matt shades are your thing they also have lipsticks in nude beige, rosewood and raspberry red.  Or try 999 Metalizer, the iconic orange red with metallic finish.

If you're into more neutral shades the Naked Eyeshadow Palette from Urban Decay is filled with 12 bronze-hued shadows with textures from matte, satin, shimmer and sparkle. I also love Urban Decay's Naked skin complete coverage concealer.  Check out their Vice lip shades in Scorched, Fuel and Heat.

Nars also have some gorgeous lipsticks in Rita, Liv, Dolce Vita and Heat Wave.  They also have eye paint that comes in several colours.  It’s a gel to apply with an angled eyeliner brush that dries quickly and can be used as an eyeliner or all over eye colour. I like to use the gel on top of their black moon eyeliner pencil for more intense pigment.

Lashes are making a statement and full long lashes are in. This look can be achieved with the new Urban Decay troublemaker mascara. Try using a primer underneath and apply a few coats of mascara for really long, luscious lashes.  Pinch the stray lashes together with tweezers if you want to achieve a spidery look. If you have thin sparse lashes try It Tightline Waterproof Mascara which has a really thin brush and is a primer, mascara and eyeliner in one.
