Micro Wedding Beauty Make-Up Tips 2021
Wedding Beauty Make-Up Tips
Dare we dream of weddings? My own daughter’s destination wedding was postponed last year due to Covid-19, but we’re thinking positive and keeping our fingers crossed. Some things just can’t wait, and weddings are definitely one of them.
One thing that hasn’t changed, despite everything, is that the bride wants to feel confident and look her absolute best on her wedding day. Having been a make-up artist for more than 20 years I’ve had lots of experience with bridal make-up – whether that’s helping to create memories with clients, or working on editorials and fashion shows, including some of the most iconic wedding dress designers such as Vera Wang.
Your make-up and hairstyle will be defined by the style of your dress and the location. A traditional church wedding has a very different vibe to a destination wedding on a beach, and that should be factored into the look.
I’ve chosen three wedding styles, with hair and make-up inspiration ideas, to create perfect looks for any bride.
Boho Chic
This make-up look is soft and feminine and would be well suited to a hairstyle in a loose chignon, messy braids or a flower crown.
Try to use the minimum of foundation and concealer you’re comfortable with, dabbed over dark areas with your fingertips. Dior Forever Skin Correct Concealer has a beautifully creamy texture that blends like a dream. Soleil Glow Sticks by Tom Ford are a double-ended highlighter and blush that instantly brighten cheeks and face for a healthy, natural glow. Keep things light and bright with Eyes to Mesmerise cream eyeshadow in Champagne by Charlotte Tilbury.
Be sure to moisturise lips well with a balm, and use a lip liner for added staying power, before filling in with your favourite rosy lipstick. Blot and repeat to make the lipstick last longer. Pillow Talk is my favourite Charlotte Tilbury lipliner, paired with her K.I.S.S.I.N.G. Sweet Blossom Lipstick.
Classic
For a timeless and elegant make-up look, keep skin fresh and clean, define your brows, add a bold lip and lots of waterproof mascara. This look works well with a classic chignon or loose curls half pulled up.
Use Lingerie de Peau Natural Perfection Foundation by Guerlain for next-level natural skin, and perfect brows using Angelik Iffennecker’s eyebrow pencil. These fine-tipped pencils come in 11 shades; choose one the same shade as your hair colour. Use small strokes to fill in patches, build an arch and extend the length of the brow if needed. I promise these pencils won’t budge!
I love Guerlain’s smoothing lipstick primer, followed by lipliner in Pivoine Magnifica and lipstick in Romantic Kiss. For a flawless make-up result, mist face with a setting spray – Guerlain Gold sets everything in place and adds a more radiant finish to the foundation.
Glamour
From Hollywood to Bollywood, when I’m looking to create a glamorous style with lots of drama I reach for Tom Ford products. Pair the look with hair up, decorated with an elaborate comb, a tiara or some statement earrings.
Start with Shade and Illuminate Soft Radiance Foundation SPF 50. Blend Glow Drops along the highpoints of the face, including cheekbones and browbones, to define bone structure. Tom Ford’s Badass Eye Color Quad shadows make it easy to achieve a bold, smoky eye, and the Eye Definer Pen features both a fine calligraphy tip and a thicker brush to achieve your most daring eyeliner. And for the lips? It has to be red. Choose from Scarlet Rouge, Vermillionaire, or Fucking Fabulous.
Tracey’s Top Tips
- A concise, regular skincare regime will minimise the chance of any last-minute break-outs. Now is not the time to be trying something new!
- Never underestimate the effects of a primer. Weddings are long days, and using a primer is important to create that smooth canvas for your make-up, and help it to ultimately last longer.
- Designate a bridesmaid or family member to keep hold of your pressed powder, Q-tips, lip balm and lipstick to touch-up throughout the day.
