Paris at any time of year is simply magical and a post-Valentine shopping and culinary trip is always the highlight of our calendar. On our annual trip we chose to stay in the 25hours Hotel Terminus Nord, Paris, opposite the Gard Du Nord, its location is super handy for navigating one’s way around Paris. For example the fabulous Galeries La Fayette is within thirty minutes walking distance, some might say it’s faster than actually hopping in a taxi!
The 25hours Hotel is located in the very heart of Paris, where art, culture, and gastronomy intertwine; we were welcomed into a whimsical world of design, creativity, and indulgence. We experienced the charm of this boutique hotel, and also embarked on a unique culinary adventure, we had a Tart Tartin baking lesson at the iconic Galeries Lafayette with a showcase dessert-making experience by the renowned Chef Haya Molcho from the in house hotel restaurant, Neni.
From the moment we stepped into the lobby of the 25hours Hotel, the vibrant atmosphere and playful design captivated our senses. Each corner of the hotel exudes a distinct personality, reflecting the spirit of the neighborhood; vibrant, artistic, and effortlessly chic. The eclectic blend of modern and vintage elements creates an ambiance that feels both trendy and timeless. This is the thinking behind each of the 25hours hotels and they are each individually a perfect reflection of the locality.
The rooms at 25hours Paris offer a delightful retreat, adorned with quirky details and unique furnishings. My room provided not only comfort but also a visual feast of artistic decor. The panoramic views of Paris from the room's terrace added an extra layer of enchantment to the overall experience. I had a bird’s eye view of the Gard du Nord terminal, as an avid people watcher this was very appealing.
Once we were checked in, and luggage unpacked we headed to Galeries Lafayette, an iconic Parisian department store. I seized the opportunity to participate in a Tart Baking lesson at the Galeries Lafayette Culinary School. Led by a skilled pastry chef, the class immersed me in the art of creating the perfect French tart.
Under the guidance of the expert chef, I learned the delicate balance of crafting a buttery crust, selecting the finest seasonal fruits, and mastering the art of creating a luscious pastry cream. The hands-on experience allowed me to appreciate the precision and skill that go into the creation of a classic French tart.
The Galeries Lafayette Culinary School itself is a culinary haven, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and a welcoming atmosphere. As I honed my baking skills, surrounded by the aroma of freshly baked pastries, I couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment and a deeper connection to the culinary traditions of Paris.
Back at the 25hours Hotel, the culinary journey continued at the Neni restaurant, an integral part of the hotel experience. The restaurant is known for its Levantine-inspired cuisine and offers a vibrant and communal dining space. The eclectic menu is a celebration of flavours, drawing inspiration from the Mediterranean and the Middle East.
For dinner, I sampled an array of dishes that showcased the culinary prowess of Neni's kitchen. From the vibrant hummus variations to the succulent falafels and the refreshing salads, each dish was a culinary masterpiece. The atmosphere, enhanced by the decor and warm lighting, created a dining experience that felt both exotic and homely.
The climax of my culinary adventure unfolded with a dessert-making experience led by the renowned Chef Haya Molcho. With her abundance of expertise in crafting exquisite desserts, she guided me through the creation of a showcase dessert—a fusion of traditional French techniques and Levantine flavours.
In the restaurant, we had the privilege of witnessing Chef Haya's meticulous approach to dessert creation. From the delicate balance of flavours to the artistic presentation, each step was a testament to her culinary mastery. It was quite the theatrical performance and Chef Haya shared insights into the inspiration behind her creations and the philosophy that defines Neni's culinary identity.
The dessert, a symphony of textures and tastes, reflected the innovative spirit of Neni. From the velvety chocolate mousse to the hint of aromatic spices, every element harmonised to create a sweet masterpiece. The experience was not just about indulging in a delectable dessert but also gaining an appreciation for the artistry that goes into crafting each sweet creation at Neni.
Meeting Chef Haya was the highlight of our Parisian trip, the culinary virtuoso behind the gastronomic wonders at Neni, is a beacon of creativity and passion. Her culinary journey is a testament to a rich tapestry of flavours inspired by the Mediterranean and the Middle East. With meticulous attention to detail, Chef Haya crafts dishes that are not merely meals but culinary experiences, resonating with a harmonious fusion of tastes and textures. Beyond the mastery of techniques, Chef Haya infuses her creations with a story—a narrative that celebrates heritage, innovation, and the joy of savouring each moment.
At Neni, Chef Haya's leadership extends beyond the kitchen. She curates an atmosphere where the love for food is shared; creating a communal dining experience that transcends the ordinary. Her warm and welcoming presence adds a personal touch, turning each meal into a celebration of culture and culinary artistry.
Chef Haya's culinary magic at Neni not only tantalises the taste buds but also invites guests into a world where every dish tells a story—a story crafted with passion, skill, and a profound love for the art of gastronomy. In the bustling culinary scene of Paris, Chef Haya stands as a culinary luminary, leaving an indelible mark on the palates and hearts of those fortunate enough to savour her creations.
We certainly packed on a few excessive pounds around the waistline during our stay but managed to also quickly lose them during our shopping expeditions which we predominately did on foot, hopping in a taxi proved fruitless, thanks to the overcrowded Parisian roads. We returned home laden down with our shopping, it was an exceptionally successful trip, and we are very much looking forward to returning to the City of Light, Paris.
