Unveiling the Ultimate in Luxury, Health, Wellness and Fine Dining: A Detailed Review of Losinj Hotels & Spa: Villa Sea Princess Nika
Villa Sea Princess Nika: Losinj Hotels & Spa
Čikat Bay, a jewel of the Adriatic Sea, is a stunning natural cove on the island of Lošinj in Croatia. Famous for its crystal-clear waters and picturesque beaches, it is a haven for swimmers, snorkelers, and sunbathers. Encircled by lush greenery and the fragrant pine forests unique to the region, Čikat Bay is exceptionally beautiful, reminiscent of Lake Garda or Como for its architecture and unique beauty. It is also home to the finest luxury villas in all of Croatia, all managed by Lošinj Hotels & Villas.
I flew into Pula airport and then hopped on a Hawker Beechcraft King Air C90 for a 20-minute private flight to Mali Lošinj—the fastest and best way to travel. While a speedboat is another option, the private flight offers a spectacular view over the ancient Roman amphitheatre in Pula, providing a marvellous opportunity to take in miles of unspoiled coastline and pristine beaches. Not to mention a large glass of in-flight Champagne to start the holiday with a fizz of excitement.
Lošinj, only 28 sq miles, is renowned for its purifying air, infused with the healing scents of pine and a variety of other aromatic plants. Over a century ago, a visionary botanist, Ambroz Haračić, planted 80,000 pine trees, transforming the island into a haven for those seeking rejuvenation and wellness. Today, Lošinj is celebrated for its therapeutic atmosphere, where each breath is a blend of essential pine oils and sea aerosols, offering a natural remedy for the body and soul.
My first two nights were spent at Villa Sea Princess Nika, the most luxurious and expensive property in all of Croatia. Steeped in the aristocratic history and heritage of Čikat Cove, the newly built Villa Sea Princess Nika evokes a sense of nostalgia akin to the timeless, refurbished gems on the opposite side of the cove.
Fashioned in an opulent classical style, with a regal arched facade, elegant exterior staircase and an unbeatable view over Čikat Bay, Villa Seas Princess Nika has seven lavish suites spread across three floors, each serving as a serene sanctuary illuminated by the morning sun's gentle dance. Features include a private spa, a meticulously curated wine cellar, and an outdoor area with inviting terraces, perfect for alfresco dining and relaxing in the luxurious jacuzzi.
Picture this: inlaid Italian marble floors boasting exquisite detail, complemented by ornately carved mirrors, multicoloured Murano glass chandeliers, and art-deco lamps. Sublime wood veneers and impeccably chosen artworks further enrich the space, creating a mosaic symphony of interior decoration. Villa Sea Princess Nika is akin to a museum, showcasing the finest examples of traditional and modern marble techniques found anywhere in the world. But it's not just a spectacle; Villa Sea Princess Nika exudes warmth and welcomes you like the most inviting palace in the world.
Each bedroom in Villa Sea Princess Nika is a unique masterpiece, individually decorated in distinct colours, epitomising luxury with a spacious king-size bed, expansive bay windows overlooking the water, and a supremely luxurious en-suite bathroom. Guests can also unwind in the exclusive home cinema, absolutely the best way to end your evenings, with a glass of fine wine chosen from the wine cellar tavern. For ultimate relaxation, the private spa features steam and sauna rooms, as well as a private gym.
It's worth noting that all treatments in the neighbouring Lošinj Hotels & Villas resort are included. Whether it's a soothing massage, a revitalising facial, or a comprehensive wellness program, guests can indulge in a variety of treatments, all included in their stay. As are the incomparable chefs, butlers, and all food and drinks.
My first lunch and dinner in the superb dining room of Villa Sea Princess set the bar at an impossible level. William, the impeccably dressed concierge who welcomed us, exuded a charm reminiscent of James Bond, clad in a stunning blue three-piece suit of extreme sartorial elegance. Think Italian Armani model with impeccable manners and you’re halfway there. The service was a masterclass in perfection, with flawless glass refills and synchronised plate placements. Each course seamlessly followed the next, accompanied by an array of wine or non-alcoholic beverages. The food itself was exquisite: a seafood risotto, followed by sweet macarons and caramel fudge. The fruit juice cocktails were tasty and zingy, refreshing healthy elixirs. After dinner, the chef and his sous chef greeted us and were justly lauded for their efforts. The waiters elevated service to an art form, poetically describing each dish as they moved around the table with the grace of ballet dancers. It was a display of absolutely flawless 5-star artistry.
The following morning, we enjoyed a fully served à la carte breakfast on the terrace, immersing ourselves in the tranquil atmosphere of Čikat Bay. We savoured succulent salmon, a variety of hams, fresh fruit, nuts, and made-to-order omelettes—whatever our hearts desired, the chef expertly prepared. The fruit juices were equally delightful, featuring flavours like beetroot, grapefruit, and lemon. Sheltered from the wind, the sun ascended over the immaculate sea, casting its golden rays upon the undisturbed surface, which mirrored the pristine clarity of the water. As the morning light danced upon the bay, the majestic silhouettes of Boutique Hotel Alhambra & Villa Augusta, Captain's Villa Rouge, and Hotel Bellevue stood reflected in the shimmering waters. Surrounded by pine trees and sloping hills, we were enveloped in an exalted and serene landscape.
We spent the afternoon cycling into Mali Lošinj, making the most of the bicycles provided upon request. One can easily navigate around the entire island of Lošinj thanks to a winding path along the coastline. Mali Lošinj, just a five-minute direct walk away, features a lengthy natural harbour surrounded by lush rolling hills and historic Mediterranean architecture, solidifying its position as the largest town on the island and a bustling hub of activity. Its abundant maritime history and scenic landscape, scattered with 19th-century sea captains' residences, make Mali Lošinj a visually captivating visit.
Dinner that evening was at the Bellevue Hotel's Matsunoki Restaurant, a culinary gem that seamlessly blends traditional Japanese cuisine with the vibrant flavours of Mediterranean ingredients. With accolades including a Michelin Plate and 15.5 Gault&Millaud points, this is a testament to the artistry of Japanese dining. Guests can luxuriate in a diverse array of dishes, from exquisite sashimi to innovative ramen, all while savouring the serene sea views from the spacious terrace or the elegant ambience of the dining room. Japanese cuisine remains my absolute favourite, and this was truly divine, with sushi, sashimi, and rare Japanese Wagyu A5 beef. A trifecta of culinary excellence.
Chef Orhan Cakiroglu, celebrated for his expertise in Japanese contemporary cuisine blended with his Turkish heritage, graciously stepped out from the kitchen to greet us. With a distinguished career spanning esteemed restaurants such as Nobu, Zuma, and Hakkasan, Chef Orhan brings a wealth of knowledge to Matsunoki restaurant. His innovative flair and steadfast commitment to quality were instrumental in Matsunoki being awarded the prestigious title of "Croatia's Best Hotel Restaurant" at the World Culinary Awards.
One of my favourite days was undoubtedly our voyage aboard the Catriona II, an 11-metre classic British wooden sailing yacht. With three cosy cabins accommodating six guests and room for eight passengers, it delivered intimacy and adventure. The Enavigo Cutter's single-mast rig, complete with mainsail, staysail, and jib, ensured nimble handling and stability across diverse winds.
Captain Teo, a master of the seas, presented us with a tapestry of sailing options, from leisurely glides to swift motor-powered journeys to scenic havens. Our destination, Llovik, also known as Flower Island, greeted us with its kaleidoscope of hues, quaint stone dwellings, and rich maritime heritage. There, in a secluded cove, we plunged into the bracing sea, swimming towards a deserted beach as Ushata fish danced around us, etching this moment into our memories against the backdrop of the serene, azure waters.
Upon our return, we savoured a late lunch on the charming terrace of The Diana Restaurant. Renowned for their exquisite steaks, which undergo a thorough dry-ageing in a dedicated chamber, infusing them with distinctive flavours and a tender texture. Expertly grilled over a traditional Argentinian asado, the rib-eye was succulent, tender, and bursting with rich flavours, complemented beautifully by the robust local Croatian wines.
