Milan Fashion Week: Where To Stay

They are two of the most prestigious (if not the most glamorous) events in the annual social calendar, representing some of the biggest showcases of next season's trends and styles anywhere on the planet. As such it’s no surprise thousands flock to the city for the winter and summer shows.
So whilst in many ways, Milan Fashion Week seems to be surrounded by other similar events (taking place, as it does, in between the London and Paris variants, the former coming after New York has had its say), and those events are all equally revered (if not more so), when it comes to Italian designers, the Milanese version is the cream of the crop. Given Italian designers could lay claim to being the most revered fashionistas, Milan can be regarded as the most flamboyant and fun. Paris does take their shows perhaps a little too seriously, whilst London can even ignore them unless you're mired in the business!
From partying until sunrise in the city’s coolest venues, to catwalk shows unveiling the latest haute couture creations from the likes of Prada and Georgio Armani, during the autumn/winter and spring/summer weeks (usually February or March, and September or October respectively) there really is no end to the amount of time you can spend out and about, living life to the full. It’s been the same since the inauguration of this event in 1958, cementing this northern metropole’s reputation as the country’s undisputed fashion capital. Nevertheless, we all need somewhere to crash out eventually, so here’s our guide to the best places to stay.
Brera and Montenapoleone
Given these areas are renowned for their exclusive boutique stores, there’s every chance you’ll be spending a fair amount of time here anyway. As such booking accommodation might be the best idea you ever have, not least given how aesthetically stunning the streets are; think narrow alleyways and atmospheric avenues.
Duomo
The most iconic building in the city is, without question, the Duomo (cathedral), as such if you’re keen to secure the most dramatic view then you should be looking at this district with keen interest. A word of warning, though, due to Milan’s business mindset and wartime damage, most addresses round here are, err, pretty modern.
Navigli
Fancy something a little more urban chic? Navigli may still be a little rough around the edges, but nevertheless this ‘canal quarter’ is home to the trendiest bars, hippest nightclubs and some incredible places to eat, and in our opinion almost matches Brera in terms of ambience. Particularly lively on a Friday and Saturday night.
Parc Sempione
There’s one very big reason to consider Parc Sempione for your accommodation in Milan; namely the fact this is the city’s largest green space, and in a distinctly concrete metropolis that’s some claim to fame. You’re also in spitting distance of Castello Sforzesco, too, the famous castle, which really should be included in any trip to Milan.
Como
OK, so Lake Como isn’t in Milan at all, and is some 45-minutes drive from the city limits. Still, the joys of escaping the hustle and bustle of it all and finding yourself in one of the country’s most stunning areas of natural beauty, in under one hour, shouldn’t be neglected- our recommendation being a few nights in town then a few more out here.
