Cardo Packtalk Edge - The Best Communication System In The World
Cardo Packtalk Edge
Cardo recently released their new Packtalk Edge communication system.
It’s the most advanced communication system in the world they say. I currently use the Packtlk Bold, and use it all the time. Mostly, I use it for streaming music from my phone and making and taking calls.
Edge is powered by the 2nd generation of Cardo’s Dynamic Mesh Communication and provides an unprecedented crystal clear sound and an easy, lightning-fast pairing for a group of up to 15 riders, at a range of up to 1.6km/1mi.
Cardo’s press release says “Among its many improved features are an upgraded Natural Voice engine, enhanced JBL Sound, and an improved noise-cancelling microphone, for an exceptional on-the-road sound and communication experience. Fast Charging and over-the-air software updates complete the list of features and improve significantly the ease of use. Waterproof, Packtalk Edge comes in a slim modern design with no external antenna, a USB Type-C port, and a revolutionary and secure magnetic Air Mount. Universal fit, unrivalled performance, the leader of the Pack is better than ever.”
This sounds like great stuff. I really like using the system, it makes riding easier and more fun. I’ve always had a few niggles with my current Packtalk Bold, but they seem to have been addressed and then some with Edge. I have my system fitted to an AGV Sportmodular helmet which is a little noisy. The noise seems to come partly from my placement of the Cardo, and my camera mount. Now, I don’t wear earplugs, so I can hear the music, but the wind noise at speed then means…..I can’t hear the music, yep, you see where I’m going. So, the enhanced JBL sound should make things better, and I’m going to try wearing earplugs too.
Another little gripe was that you had to plug the Bold in to update. Not a big deal, but other devices do it wirelessly, such as phones, satnavs and so on. Now Cardo has added this feature, so I’m a happy boy.
Pairing my current Bold system with other riders is actually fairly simple, but I always struggled for some reason. You have a couple of buttons to press, then a couple more. I always found it a faff, probably because I don’t pair that often so have to look at the instructions on the app. With Edge, it seems to be really simple. Press only one button to pair any Packtalk Edge to the DMC group. No administrator is needed, any rider can join the group by pressing the intercom button. Sounds perfect.
It has an enhanced Natural Voice Operation. So you simply say “Hey Cardo” and give your instructions; “Hey Cardo, Music on”, “Hey Cardo, next track”, “Hey Cardo, volume up“ and so on.
I’ll get my hands on the new Cardo Packtalk Edge and give you a review of it in the field…..
