Porsche’s Taycan range has seen impressive growth since its launch and now, with the addition of the new GTS version for 2024, the lineup has become even more diverse. This latest addition brings a host of upgrades, covering everything from design enhancements and power increases to improved range and charging performance.

Porsche’s decision to release the GTS variant as both a sedan and Sport Turismo underscores its commitment to providing more choice and flexibility for drivers looking to embrace electric performance without sacrificing too much versatility.

The 2024 Taycan GTS doesn’t just wear the GTS badge; it honours it by stepping up performance to new levels within the Taycan family. The GTS’s over-boost power output has been raised to an impressive 690 hp with Launch Control, making it a standout performer in Porsche’s electric lineup.

In real terms, this translates to a 0-62 mph sprint in just 3.3 seconds, shaving off half a second from its predecessor’s time. The car also sprints to 125 mph in a fairly rapid 10.4 seconds, allowing it to hold its own in the performance-oriented electric space.

One particularly intriguing new feature is the “push-to-pass” function, part of the standard Sport Chrono package. Activated by a button, this feature delivers an additional 70 kW of power on demand, lasting up to 10 seconds per use.

This boost isn’t just for high-speed overtakes; it’s engineered to give the GTS a particularly lively response at lower speeds by elevating torque to Launch Control levels, providing an extra edge of acceleration when needed. With the countdown timer displayed on the instrument cluster, it’s a feature that not only enhances performance but also adds a bit of drama to the driving experience.

Range remains a critical factor for any EV these days and Porsche has equipped the Taycan GTS with a series of enhancements designed to extend battery life and boost efficiency. The 2024 GTS promises over 74 miles of added range compared to the previous model, taking its WLTP-rated maximum range up to an impressive 390 miles.

These gains come from a mix of factors, including an advanced rear-axle motor with an additional 80 kW compared to the last model, updated software for the pulse inverter and a new generation of batteries that not only charge faster but also handle thermal demands more effectively.

Porsche has also introduced improved regenerative braking and an all-wheel-drive strategy designed to decouple the front motor whenever possible, reducing energy consumption while enhancing the Taycan’s efficiency.

Coupled with Porsche’s 800-volt DC charging capabilities, the GTS can be charged at speeds of up to 320 kW, with recuperation capacity increasing to 400 kW. For drivers, this translates to shorter charging stops, a greater distance per charge and a more responsive car in everyday driving situations.

As always with Porsche’s GTS models, aesthetics play a key role. The 2024 Taycan GTS showcases some distinctive design cues that set it apart from other Taycan models. Exterior highlights include new high-gloss Black detailing on the mirror bases and the front and rear aprons, which give the GTS an understated yet powerful presence.

Porsche has also added exclusive wheel options, including the Taycan Turbo S Aero Design wheels in 20-inch or the RS Spyder Design wheels in a 21-inch Anthracite Grey finish, adding to its sporty profile.

The cabin reflects Porsche’s philosophy of pairing luxury with performance. Inside, the GTS comes with an abundance of Race-Tex material and smooth black leather accents, 18-way adjustable sports seats and a GT multifunction sports steering wheel are all standard, delivering both comfort and control.

For those who want to add a dash of colour, Porsche offers the GTS interior package in Slate Grey Neo alongside the classic Carmine Red. Small but noticeable details, like the GTS logo on the instrument cluster and BOSE Surround Sound System as standard, further accentuate the premium feel.

The Taycan GTS is engineered to be an all-rounder that handles dynamic roads with precision while also being comfortable for daily use. It’s equipped with adaptive air suspension and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) as standard. For even sharper handling, an optional rear-axle steering system allows the rear wheels to pivot slightly, giving the GTS extra agility in tight turns and enhanced stability at high speeds.

Porsche’s suspension control system, dubbed Porsche Active Ride, is tuned specifically for the GTS. This system adjusts the balance and distribution of wheel loads to improve handling in dynamic driving scenarios, making sure that the GTS remains connected to the road, whether it’s hugging corners on a mountain pass or cruising on the motorway. Active Ride also adds comfort by softening the ride during everyday driving, so owners won’t feel beaten up by a sporty suspension on their daily commute.

As Porsche pushes further into the EV space, the GTS shows how the brand is successfully blending its heritage of sportiness and precision with the demands of electric mobility. Expect the Taycan GTS to start appearing in showrooms in early 2025, continuing Porsche’s journey in the rapidly evolving electric performance landscape.
