The first watch in IWC Schaffhausen’s history to feature a bronze case, the IWC Aquatimer Edition Expedition Charles Darwin watch pays homage to the well-known ship, HMS Beagle, which carried Charles Darwin on his expedition to the Galapagos Islands. In the past, bronze was used extensively throughout the construction of ships due to its non-corrosive properties. Today, this material makes up the 44 millimetre case of the special edition IWC watch and as always, will develop a natural patina over time.

For several years now, IWC Schaffhausen has worked alongside the Charles Darwin Foundation to raise money and awareness for the Galapagos scientific centre. Here, they research the indigenous fauna and flora of the Galapagos Islands, a World Heritage site, to ensure the conservation of the environment and its biodiversity. The Pilot's Watch 43 TOP GUN features a case made of black ceramic, a black dial, and a titanium case back and crown. A deep, matte black inspired by the coatings and technical components of modern jets; black zirconium oxide ceramic has been the hallmark of IWC TOP GUN since 2007. IWC and Pantone® specified this color as IWC Jet Black.  In 1986, IWC was the first watch manufacturer to present a case made of black zirconium oxide ceramic. Since 1994, this high-tech material has also been used in Pilot’s Watches.
