Singapore Formula One Grand Prix
Singapore Formula One Grand Prix
The Singapore Grand Prix takes place on the Marina Bay Street Circuit and was the inaugural F1 night race and the first street circuit in Asia.
The circuit in Marina Bay is 5.067 km in length, and speeds in excess of 300 km/h are reached along the Raffles Boulevard stretch. Turns 1, 2 and 3 were recently modified slightly to aid overtaking after there were several accidents in 2008.
Spaniard Fernando Alonso won the first edition of the grand prix, driving for the Renault F1 team. The Singapore Grand Prix will remain on the F1 calendar through at least 2017, after race organisers signed a contract extension with Formula One Management on the eve of the 2012 event.
