Ruroc AT4.0 Track - Luxury And Performance
Ruroc AT4.0-Track
In the high-octane world of motorcycling, few brands have mastered the art of "the look" quite like Ruroc. Yet, with the Atlas 4.0 Track, the British marque has finally bridged the gap between aesthetic bravado and genuine, podium-ready performance.
Ruroc is a British brand, founded in 2007 and headquartered in Gloucester, England. I’ve been wearing the AT4.0 Track through 2025. It’s designed for the track and road, and mine is in the neon-drenched Nitro colour scheme.
This is a piece of equipment that understands luxury is not merely about excess, but about performance, and the uncompromising pursuit of character. The Ruroc AT4.0 Track isn’t just a helmet; it’s a statement of intent. The Ruroc Atlas 4.0 Track proudly shouts the brand's signature aesthetic. Ruroc’s branding and styling mean that this helmet is instantly recognisable.
The Liner: Rheon™ Impact Technology
One of the most innovative features is the inclusion of Rheon™ technology within the internal liner. Rheon is a "non-Newtonian" material that remains soft and flexible for comfort during normal use but instantly stiffens upon impact. It is specifically designed to dissipate both linear and rotational impact energy, providing a level of brain protection that exceeds standard EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) alone.
Combined with its ACU Gold, ECE 22.06 (the latest and most stringent European safety standard, replacing 22.05), DOT FMVSS 218 (US) and ACU Gold (UK) certifications, the AT4.0 Track offers a level of reassurance that allows you to focus entirely on your riding.
The Atlas 4.0 has been independently tested by SHARP (the UK Department for Transport's helmet safety scheme) and awarded 4 out of 5 stars. For the 4.0 Track, Ruroc has transitioned to a traditional DD-ring chinstrap (required for ACU
Comfort & Interior
The interior isn't just about safety; it’s built for the physical intensity of track riding, which makes it a great road helmet.
The acoustic padding, made from a moisture-wicking fabric designed to pull sweat away from the skin, creates a refined environment. It’s a nice tight fit, and after thousands of miles in all weathers, from a flat track school in 30°, to a hotel tour of Devon in 3° degrees and pouring with rain, the padding feels like new and holds the helmet tight on my head. A benefit of the padding is that it significantly dampens wind noise. The cheek pads feature emergency pull-tabs, allowing medical professionals to remove the helmet safely in the event of an accident.
Hardware & Vision
Vision is great, it’s much like a grand tourer; the 215° horizontal field of view offers a panoramic perspective, allowing one to appreciate the scenery.
To achieve ACU Gold certification for track use, Ruroc replaced the Fidlock magnetic buckle with a traditional high-grade Double-D ring fastener and the 4.0 Track. The visor is made from high-impact polycarbonate and features a heavy-duty rubber seal at the top edge to prevent wind and rain from entering the cockpit at high speed.
The Aesthetic
On the road, the Track designation is no mere marketing suffix. This is Ruroc’s fastest lid to date. The core of the helmet is its lightweight T300 carbon fibre shell. Unlike the standard Atlas 4.0, the "Track" version features a refined layup that is roughly 10% lighter. The shell is equipped with a dedicated polycarbonate rear spoiler and capped side vents, specifically designed to manage airflow at high speeds. It works; this is a very stable helmet.
The Nitro livery wraps the carbon-fibre shell in vibrant neon flashes that are unapologetically bold, and the gloss finish of the carbon weave beneath keeps it firmly within the realm of high-end luxury. Ruroc has a very distinctive look, immediately recognisable from a distance.
Shockwave
The Ruroc Shockwave is the integrated communication and audio system. Ruroc have two versions of the Shockwave. While both integrate seamlessly into the helmet's shell to maintain aerodynamics, their capabilities differ.
Shockwave Bluetooth (The Standard Edition)
Features Audio by Harman Kardon in the form of 40mm high-fidelity speakers and software tuned specifically for the internal acoustics of the Atlas 4.0 shell.
Bluetooth 5.0 allows for phone calls, GPS instructions, and music streaming. The Shockwave Bluetooth is IP64: protected against dust and water splashes from any direction
Shockwave Mesh (Powered by Cardo)
This is the "premium" version developed in collaboration with Cardo Systems. Dynamic Mesh Communication (DMC): Unlike the Bluetooth version, this allows you to connect with up to 15 riders over a range of up to 1.2km (0.7 miles) without needing a mobile signal.
Because it uses Cardo's DMC 2.0 tech, it pairs effortlessly with other Cardo units and you can use "Hey Cardo" commands to control music or volume.
It is also IP65 Waterproof: Highly resistant to the British weather.
Both versions have a battery Life: Approximately 10–12 hours of playback with USB-C rapid charging.
On the EOX, the Shockwave Mesh is split into two modules that sit flush with the helmet shell, with a rubber seal to waterproof. On older helmet models and on the Track, it fits in a cavity at the back of the helmet, so no bulky modules are sticking off the side of your lid.
The Verdict
My Ruroc Atlas 4.0 Track in Nitro feels like a piece of art. It refuses to sacrifice the brand's signature aggressive styling.
I have two issues with the helmet. One is the intercom. It’s perfectly fine when I’m on my own, connected to my phone, although the buttons are on the rear edge of the helmet, which are awkward to use with your gear on. However, I have really struggled to get it to connect to another helmet, and there is no supporting app.
The other issue is my big nose. It almost touches the chin bar on the inside. At high speeds, with the wind pushing on the helmet, it does touch my nose. I can’t blame Ruroc for my having a big nose. It’s not an issue I’ve had with other helmet brands I’ve worn, probably down to the shell shape and maybe the intercom pocket at the rear of the Ruroc helmet. Otherwise, I love it.
