The Boat Race is one of the oldest sporting events in the world.

It is an annual contest between two rowing crews from Oxford and Cambridge universities.

The Race takes place close to Easter each year on the River Thames in West London between Putney and Mortlake.

The first race took place in 1829 in Henley on Thames following a challenge between old school friends. Since the second race in 1836 the contest has taken place in London.

Mardi Gras Day, or "Fat Tuesday", is the culmination of an annual Carnival celebration in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, so called because it always falls on the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. The parades begin several weeks earlier and most visitors will plan to arrive on the Saturday before Mardi Gras Day so as to enjoy an extended weekend of festivities. Mardi Gras is full of music, parades, floats, purple, green and gold and great excitement.

Sailing yacht owners will experience three days of racing in the prime sailing conditions of the BVI, expertly organized by the international race committee at the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda under the IRC rating system. There will be a fleet start for the racing division and a pursuit start for the cruising division. Divisions and classes may be adapted to accommodate the diversity of the fleet.

In early April each year, the world and its media descend upon Aintree Racecourse for three of the biggest days in the British sporting and social calendar, the John Smith’s Grand National.

The Venture Cup is the ultimate offshore powerboat race, featuring 30 international teams who will re-trace the most famous powerboat race in history - the London to Monte-Carlo race of 1972.

Over two weeks, the fleet will race for over 2,750 miles, visiting 9 cities where major supporting festivals will be held, and culminating with the race finishing in glorious Monte-Carlo.

The Paris Marathon is a unique opportunity to discover the city whilst participating in one of the most exciting races over the mythical distance of 26 miles, 385 yards.

The Masters Tournament, also known as The Masters or The US Masters is one of the four major championships in professional golf. Scheduled for the first full week of April, it is the first of the majors to be played each year. Unlike the other major championships, the Masters is held each year at the same location, Augusta National Golf Club, a private golf club in the city of Augusta, Georgia, USA.

The new Chelsea Art Fair is organised by Ben Cooper. The stylish, airy stand plan in the elegant surroundings of the Chelsea Old Town Hall, give the visitor a feeling of space, and ability to absorb the art on offer.

Following last year's success, a large number of the galleries have rebooked.

Once again the Chelsea Art Fair is proud to support Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. As with last year, each gallery will have a work of art for sale, where a percentage of the proceeds will go directly to the charity.

The Chinese Grand Prix is held at the Shanghai International Circuit, Shanghai, designed by Hermann Tilke. When completed in 2004, it was the most expensive Formula One circuit facility costing approximately $450 million. Many consider it the benchmark upon which all new tracks are judged.

The grandstands can hold up to 200,000 spectators, and the city is well on its way to become one of the world's main racing hubs. It would appear to have a secure future as a venue for F1 Grand Prix.
