Aprilia SR GT 400 - City Adventurer
Aprilia SR GT 400
The 2026 Aprilia SR GT 400 is a City Adventurer that Aprilia says rewrites the rules of the mid-displacement GT scooter segment by blending urban functionality with a genuine spirit of adventure. Dubbed a crossover, this bike brings a fresh, fun attitude into the maxi scooter genre.
Visually, the SR GT 400 is unmistakably Aprilia. It draws heavy inspiration from the brand’s range of bikes, featuring a minimalist, aggressive design, characterised by sleek bodywork and a signature three-element full LED light cluster. The silhouette is further defined by a suspended windscreen and a tail that evokes the high mudguards of enduro motorcycles. For those who want an even more rugged look, the Rally Replica version is inspired by the livery of the Africa Eco Race-winning Aprilia Tuareg Rally.
At the centre of this scooter is a liquid-cooled 400 cc single-cylinder engine (actually 399 cc) delivering a robust 36 HP. Performance is what you would expect from a 400cc maxi scooter. It’s peppy, easy to cut through traffic and will sit on or above the national speed limit all day, with ease. The bike only weighs 186 kg in running order, giving it a power-to-weight ratio of 197 bhp/ton, class-leading for this category. This translates into a bike that is lively and responsive, capable of accelerating from 0 to 62 mph in just 5 seconds.
I’m partial to a large-capacity scooter, and this is a great example of the genre. We only had a brief time with the scooter, just having it for a day, but one of the most surprising aspects of the SR GT 400 is its handling. It uses a rigid double-cradle frame made out of high-strength steel tubing. This Aprilia is branded a crossover. It’s not something you would take to a motocross track, but for our terrible, potholed roads, and for exploring the highways and byways of the UK, it’s got what you need.
The SR GT 400 front suspension uses beefy 41 mm upside-down forks with 120 mm of travel. At the rear, Aprilia uses twin gas-charged rear shocks with separate reservoirs and adjustable preload, giving 120 mm of travel. Overall ground clearance comes in at a generous 190 mm. All sitting on 16” front and 14” rear wheels with Mitas Enduro Trail-ADV 2 tyres.
Compare that to, say, a Suzuki Burgman with only 109 mm of travel at the front, a hidden single shock at the rear with only 99 mm of travel, and only 125 mm of ground clearance, and you get what this Aprilia is about.
The SR GT has excellent brakes: A 300 mm floating front disc with radial calliper and a sophisticated Bosch two-channel ABS system with dual mapping does a great job of stopping the scooter. You have a couple of modes: Road Mode (Full ABS) and Off-Road Mode (Rear ABS Off), which is great fun if you do stray off the beaten track. You also have two-level traction control and a big 12-litre fuel tank.
Despite its sporty and adventurous leanings, the SR GT 400 remains a highly practical tool for daily life. The underseat storage is spacious enough to hold a full-face helmet (mine didn’t fit), and a central tunnel compartment hides a USB-C socket for charging. It also features a standard keyless system, allowing you to start the engine and unlock compartments with the electronic key still in your pocket. There’s a standard 5” colour TFT display, as found across the range, which manages all essential information. With the optional Aprilia MIA platform, riders can connect their smartphones for navigation, calls, and music.
Priced at £5,999, the Aprilia SR GT 400 is a versatile choice for commuters who want more than just a boring A-to-B machine. With a 12-litre fuel tank offering a range of over 185 miles and a choice of stylish colours: Dusty Grey, Boulder Grey, and Rugged Black, it bridges the gap between simply a tool, daily transport, and a weekend plaything. Whether you are navigating city traffic or exploring remote gravel routes, the SR GT 400 scooter is very Aprilia, and that’s no bad thing.
