Versace
Hopefully it’s okay to use this word, but Versace is all about sex, and glamour, and this spring summer show oozed them both. Versace’s raison d’être is to stand out in any crowd, whether it be a red carpet event or simply sashaying down to the local market in Monaco. Subtle classic blacks with sliced layers, African inspired Batik patterns in loud hues, awesome cool long coats and modular wool street smarts. This show had something for everyone. You could build your entire wardrobe here. As Edwina in Ab Fab put it, Versace is still the king and this show lived up to the hype.

Dior
Dior was all about whites and blacks, wth a little red and pastel thrown in the mix. Long draped dresses, a nod to summer weddings but with a raw luxury twist. The clothes reflected the Dior history whilst modelled by edgier girls than Christian or his time would have been comfortable with. No game changers, just perfect cuts on clothes that would flatter all shapes and sizes, imminently wearable and a crowd pleaser.

Chanel
There were elements of classic Chanel and amuse bouches consisting of futuristic touches with some humour, whilst the core was aimed at the girl about town. Soft feminine touches but adapted to city streets, not just the daring abundance of baseball caps turned sideways or backwards (not always a cool look), but the mix of flowing striped skirts paired with time honoured sleek cut jackets in the familiar Chanel pattern updated for a new audience. Gorgeous diaphanous cottons and silks flowed as the models weaved up and down the catwalk. Mostly aimed at a younger audience, this stood out as a strong spring statement, reflecting a time of innocent optimism.
Alexander mcQueen.
Inspired by the Shetland Isles, Sarah Burton and her team actually flew up there to do their research, this new collection is sublime. It mixes leather and wool lace, long sinuous dresses and high bodices, all using the most natural materials based on wild flowers, Fair Isle sweaters and shawls. It is so far from the city street wear that other designers are shaping, a clever switch from the high tech and world weary mainstream that pervades our culture. A stunning celebration of how we could fit into this world naturally and most importantly, beautifully.

Gucci
The Gucci show emphasised fun with a light hearted romp through time and styles in Britain. A nod to England’s maritime past here, a wave at the punk era with tartan aplenty there, jumping from school outfits to boating with cricket caps and college sweaters. A bit of flag waving and leaping on the nationalist bandwagon pining for England’s past, Alessandro Michele presented a show aimed at those that like a bit of fancy dress. Look no further if you are planning on attending the next Goodwood Revival.https://www.gucci.com
Vivienne Westwood
Vivienne’s husband Andreas Kronthaler drew inspiration from the Mediterranean for this unisex show, bright orange, reds, pinks and blues, in the usual eclectic but still unpredictable style, a mix of precise cuts and loose raw materials. Some great inspiration here and always creative if not totally practical.

Miu Miu
This was swinging 60’s London meets Monaco, dare to bare and go for the summer look, halter tops and sharp cut jackets with big lapels. The pool look with bathing caps ablaze with colour and flowers. This is what you wear as you step from your yacht to the quay, heading for the Riviera bar for your Aperol Spritz. Big bikinis and superb colour palettes, fiendishly mixed to show off a superior eye for luxury style. Kudos to Prada for making bathrobes super chic. Every outfit caught the eye, if you can pull off a bathing cap and a deck chair striped suit then definitely add at least one of these nifty numbers to the wardrobe.
