Dive into Adventure: Testing the AquaDart Nano 550E in Mauritius
James Bond Vibes: Exploring Mauritius with the AquaDart Nano
AquaDart Nano Mauritius
Where’s the most exciting place to test a cutting-edge sea scooter like the AquaDart Nano 550E? How about Mauritius—a jewel in the Indian Ocean, nestled off the east coast of Africa. This vibrant island is a melting pot of cultures, where English, French, Mauritian Creole, and Indian languages like Bhojpuri blend seamlessly. The cuisine? A sensational fusion of Asian, African, and French influences that will have your taste buds singing.
We based ourselves at the Canonnier Beachcomber Hotel, a stunning resort with a personal connection—we first met its manager at the equally delightful Shandrani Beachcomber. Partnering with the hotel’s Mauritius Diving Centre, led by the charismatic John and the ever-enthusiastic boat captain Wilby, we embarked on a week of aquatic thrills. Testing the AquaDart Nano with these two felt more like a comedy show than a serious product review. Their passion and playful spirit made the experience an absolute joy.
The Sea Scooter: Nano 550E Highlights
Let’s dive into the specs first (pun intended):
Top Speed: 19 km/h
Power Levels: Five, with a hefty 550 Newtons of thrust
Battery Life: 60–150 minutes, plenty for an underwater adventure
Depth Control: Programmable from 2 to 40 metres
Cool Tech: Built-in accelerometer and an ‘attitude indicator’ for tracking pitch, roll, and more—perfect for navigating murky waters or channeling your inner Top Gun underwater.
This isn't just a scooter; it's like strapping a jet engine to your scuba gear. You can cruise leisurely or feel the thrill of zipping along at high speed, chasing after fish or playing out underwater Star Wars dogfights, flying low level missions down into the canyons along the seabed.
The Adventure
We began in a serene, sheltered bay just off the Canonnier, with warm, crystal-clear waters and only a gentle ripple on the surface. Our testing playground was a 4-metre-deep reef—a perfect spot to let the Nano strut its stuff. The scooter’s controls, while responsive, require a bit of practice. Switching between speeds mid-ride isn’t the most intuitive, and the default setting resets to the slowest speed after each use. A pre-selectable speed or throttle-style control would have been far more convenient.
Once we got the hang of it, though, the AquaDart Nano transformed into a waterborne cruiser. Whether we were free-diving in shorts or kitted out in full scuba gear, the experience was equally exhilarating. It felt like flying underwater—think James Bond on a secret mission to infiltrate a villain’s underwater lair.
Performance and Fun
The AquaDart Nano is surprisingly versatile. You can glide gracefully, admiring the vibrant marine life, or crank it up to full speed for an adrenaline rush. Following fish and turtles as they dart about, or diving into underwater canyons, is nothing short of magical. Just remember to keep an eye on your depth—this little beast can descend fast, so equalise pressure regularly and ascend safely.
Even John, who spends his life in the ocean, couldn’t stop laughing every time he surfaced. That’s the power of the AquaDart—it turns seasoned divers into giddy kids.
The AquaDart Nano 550E is a must-have toy for anyone who loves the water. Whether you’re chasing dolphins, exploring coral reefs, or just indulging in your Aquaman fantasies, it’s guaranteed to put a massive grin on your face.
So, if you’re heading to Mauritius, pack an AquaDart Nano. Who knows? You might find yourself laughing uncontrollably like John or pretending to be 007 on your next aquatic escapade. Either way, you’re in for a wet and wild adventure.
