Extreme Sailing Series

Oman Air were today crowned kings of Act 3 of the Extreme sailing Series™ following a tense finale that saw them only just manage to hold off a late charge from rivals Red Bull sailing Team.
Morgan Larson’s men went into the fourth and final day of racing in Cardiff Bay with a commanding 17-point lead following a string of top results executed with trademark consistency throughout the Act. When they finished second in the first four races it looked like they would breeze to glory, but just as it looked like victory was sewn up Red Bull sailing Team mounted a spirited comeback.

The two big sailing events in British waters this summer are undoubtedly the Extreme sailing Series with the Extreme 40 Catamarans and the Panerai British Classic Week, part of the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge.
Both very different races but with many things in common, they engender great passion from the participants and, unusual for sailing events, are exhilarating, exciting and fun for all to enjoy.

 
Given the somewhat unexpected summer weather we have enjoyed here in the UK I was perhaps forgiven for not expecting this to be a typically blustery day in Cardiff, yet fun and excitement are always in abundance at this fantastic annual event.
2013 was the second year since Cardiff snatched the event away from Cowes, and the city certainly sees sailing as an important part of its sport and arts attractions. This year saw Land Rover as the main sponsor including a local team, Team Wales Land Rover, skippered by young Welsh sailor Dave Evans.
