As venues go one would be hard pressed to beat the surroundings of the 5-star May Fair Hotel in the heart of London’s West End just a stones throw from Bond Street and Piccadilly. This historic 406-room hotel located on Stratton Street was first opened in 1927 by King George V and Queen Mary in attendance. A plaque in the foyer records the event.
 

The 2014 BCYC Panerai Regatta starts this week and it is worth remembering how the BCYC started just over a decade ago in 2002 and the core values we represent.
 

The Panerai British Classic Week which is part of the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge is the other big sailing event that International eXcellence Magazine never misses. It is the classic yacht event of the year and takes place on the Solent in Cowes. What was the first watch that you owned?
- I don’t even know if this watch belonged to a brand or had any name, actually it was just providing time and at the moment it was enough for me. It is exactly what luxury watches do not do: simply display time, it is so much more than this…
How did you start in the industry?

Breguet developed the tourbillion and the self winding watch and they continue to innovate with the Classique Chronometrie. This watch use a newly patented magnetic pivot to offset the negative effects of magnetism in watch movements and improve the precision and reliability of the mechanical watch. The magnetic pivot consists of a carbon-steel balance staff and a ‘rare-earth’ magnet behind each endstone. It is a beautiful piece with fluted caseband, welded lugs, engine turned dial and open-tipped Breguet hands.

This watch employs liquids, the traditional enemy of horology, using bellows that pump transparent oil and water around. Where the two immiscible liquids meet in a tube tells you the time. Hydro mechanical horology at its most excellent.
