Summer is here at last, faraway places, beaches, yachting and the social season beckon. There is a plethora of fantastic destinations where one can go to unwind, recharge and enjoy the benefits of stepping away from the everyday routine. For some, that escape is a stunning beach in The Maldives or Fiji, for others it is time to hop over to the yacht in Monte Carlo or Lake Como, or relax and unwind by surfing in Bora Bora.

Montenegro is a land of wild and precious beauty, characterised by an immense natural diversity and historic grandeur. It boasts two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the walled town of Kotor. Other locations include the magnificent palaces of Perast and the old town of Budva.

Where is there to go now that is only a few hours flight from London, still pretty unexploited, yet guarantees beautiful landscapes and is at the cusp of becoming the next global luxury destination? Somewhere fresh and exciting, that combines the old world European style and luxury, yet still provides a little adventure?

An interest in watches is not the only reason for attending SalonQP.  Anyone who has a curiosity and likes to see an extraordinarily high quality of workmanship should make a beeline for this annual exhibition.

After their great success at the Newport and Norwalk boat shows, Hunton Yachts are showing the superb XRS43 Speedbird and the XRS37 Flying Spur in Fort Lauderdale from the 4th November onwards.
Hunton will be hosting a series of sea trials and some visitors will be given the opportunity to drive this high performance luxury yacht, often described as the Aston Martin of the sea, due to its luxury hand crafting and sharp sophisticated silhouette.

Along with Hamptons royalty, the sailing glitterati and the cream of Manhattan, Hunton Yachts has spent a very successful summer in Sag Harbour, where the Hunton XRS43 has been widely acclaimed for its style, looks and performance. Sag Harbour in the Hamptons is an historic sailing hamlet and whaling port since the 1700’s. It is now more famous as a holiday destination for sailing enthusiasts, with its stunning sailboats, impressive power boats and picturesque Main Street with fashionable shops, art galleries and acclaimed restaurants.

We could have been forgiven for thinking we were in Sveti Stefan (now an Aman Resort) – in Montenegro as we gazed out from our ‘deck’, glass of champagne in hand, across the sparkling bay. Sveti Stefan has always been fashionable with a guest list which included Sophia Loren, and when we saw the Cary Arms’ new so-called ‘beach Huts’ we just knew that there will be some notable guests. These potentially design award-winning pavilions are exceptional; they breathe 21st century style into what was formerly tired concept.

Alex Thomson is a British Sailor, and one of the most talented yachtsmen of his generation. Already the youngest ever sailor to win a round the world race, Thomson has three world records to his name. Now, he hopes to add Vendée Globe success to his resume, an accolade which has thus far proven elusive to all British Sailors. Ahead of this year’s Vendée Globe, Thomson shares his thoughts on his career to date and how he feels to be taking on ‘the Everest of sailing’ once again.
