Let’s be upfront. I’m not exactly brave when it comes to anything remotely medical. So when The Nimmo Clinic invited me to try out their BBL Hero and MOXI skin treatments, my initial reaction was somewhere between scepticism and mild panic.

But after two impressively thorough consultations with Dr. Martin Nimmo himself—and a series of reassuring chats with his excellent assistant Genie—I agreed. Honestly, one look at my sun-ravaged face (thanks, short-haul trips to sun-drenched destinations) made it clear I could use a bit of help. Google “Gammon Face” and I come up on the first page.

The Art of Light: Skin Rejuvenation Done Properly

So, a few weeks later, I found myself at The Nimmo Clinic. It’s a sleek, modern practice where lasers and light aren’t just tools—they’re wielded with surgical precision and serious skill. For someone whose face tends to lean more tomato than tan, I was curious (and hopeful) to see what results were possible.

Dr. Nimmo’s approach stands out. The clinic specialises in combining BBL (BroadBand Light) and MOXI treatments—both highly respected in the field of non-surgical skin rejuvenation. While lasers can sound intimidating, these are smart, customisable treatments designed to suit different skin types, tones, and concerns.

BBL & MOXI: The Dynamic Duo of Skin Renewal

BBL is a high-intensity pulsed light treatment that targets pigmentation, redness, and vascular lesions. It also kickstarts collagen production, which gives the skin a firmer, more youthful appearance. If you’ve sun damage or uneven skin tone, BBL targets the source directly. One important note for anyone with facial hair: avoid the beard area—BBL can cause permanent hair loss there.

MOXI, on the other hand, is more of a slow burn. It’s a non-ablative laser that creates micro-injuries beneath the skin’s surface to stimulate healing, smooth texture, and reduce fine lines and pigmentation. The downtime is minimal—just a few days of mild redness and texture changes.

Together, they’re not competing—they complement each other. BBL evens out tone; MOXI improves texture. Simple as that.

What It’s Really Like: A First-Hand Breakdown

The treatment itself? Well, BBL feels like little electric shocks, and MOXI is like a faulty electric razor—uncomfortable but bearable. The whole process took about 45 minutes, and I walked out with a sunburn-like flush and some charming goggle marks. My son said I looked like I’d just come back from a jungle trek. I even went to a party that evening and everyone thought I’d just come back from a holiday.

By Day 2, the redness had eased significantly.
By Day 3, I had a slightly rough texture to the skin—known as “mends”—but nothing alarming.
By Day 5, it was back to normal with a very clear improvement: less redness, a more even tone, and smoother texture.

The second session seemed a bit more intense, resulting in slightly more redness. However, the overall improvement was still noticeable. There was less redness, fewer blotches, and even the scars from my various cycling and adventure sports were less prominent. Surprisingly, the bags under my eyes, which weren't even targeted (protected by goggles during treatment), were also less noticeable. The third session was a breeze, as I seemed to have adjusted to it by then, with minimal redness and a much faster recovery, lasting only a couple of days at most.

Aftercare: Yes, There’s Some Homework

Following the treatments, they recommended the ZO Skin Health Anti-Ageing Programme by Dr Zein Obagi. It’s a five-step routine and costs around £200—not cheap, but incredibly effective. My skin healed beautifully and felt hydrated and resilient, which made the investment worthwhile. It's the only skincare I've ever used that genuinely made a difference.

Results: Real, Visible, and Worth It

After three sessions, I’d estimate:

  • 35% reduction in redness
  • 40% reduction in blotchiness
  • Noticeable smoothing of fine lines

More importantly, my skin simply looks and feels healthier. I still travel constantly, often on little sleep, and months on, the results are still holding up.

No, it doesn’t turn back time forever. As Dr. Nimmo wisely put it, skin health is like fitness—you have to keep at it. Maintenance is key. They recommend one to two sessions a year to keep results looking fresh, and I’d agree, though my face still looks much healthier, three months on.

Why It Works: The Equipment, The Expertise, The Experience

If you’re considering any laser treatment, don’t skimp on the clinic. The Nimmo Clinic uses some of the best tech on the market—expensive, yes, but there’s a reason. These machines matter. And Dr. Nimmo’s background (a dentistry graduate from the University of Dundee, with facial surgical experience at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York) is the kind of pedigree that inspires confidence.

Stacey, who handled my laser treatments, was exceptional—knowledgeable, careful, and highly skilled. She took the time to explain everything, including how treatment plans vary depending on skin tone, ethnicity, and gender, as measured on the Fitzpatrick scale.

Why Celebrities Look Ageless – And Why You Might, Too

By the third session, it hit me: that flawless, smooth skin you see on actors and celebrities? It's not magic. It’s BBL and MOXI.  They're all getting this done. And it’s not just about vanity. These treatments address real concerns—including acne, congested or oily skin, pigmentation and sun damage, thread veins, open pores, redness, sagging skin, dry or uneven texture, and even unwanted or excessive facial hair.

For me, it was less about chasing youth and more about repairing damage and improving skin health. The glow was a bonus.

Is It Worth It?

Absolutely—if you’re ready to commit. These aren’t one-off miracle fixes. But they are safe, effective, and backed by science. And in the right hands—like Dr. Nimmo’s—they deliver genuinely transformative results.

Everyone’s skin is different. What worked for me might not be exactly right for you. But that’s the strength of this clinic: they tailor everything. And they know what they’re doing.

Bottom line? I no longer resemble a sun-dried tomato. My skin feels stronger, looks clearer, and I’m genuinely thrilled with the results.

Not bad for someone who used to think “skincare” meant borrowing hotel moisturiser.
